WHY IS OUR WORK IMPORTANT?
Prospera means "thrive" in Spanish. If managing your family's health was no longer guesswork and fear for survival, then you could focus on a brighter future! This program aims to empower opportunities for better health, a more stable life, and a vibrant future. Salud. Vida. Futuro.
1
FIGHTING INFECTION
As of 2017 in a study completed by Unicef and the WHO, 3 billion people still lacked basic hand washing facilities and supplies at home. More than 300,000 children under the age of five died each year due to diarrhoeal infections linked to a lack of safe drinking water and sanitation – a rate of 800 per day- that could have been prevented by proper handwashing.
2
EDUCATION
Data and education in the areas of Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene are more commonly known as WASH. Worldwide there are WASH development projects happening to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all, including education and access to essential healthcare services. Prospera is developing a health education program specifically for Panama based on the most successful and relevant information available.
3
GET KIDS TO SCHOOL!
When it's successful the results are tangible. Based on programs within tracked and participating schools, WASH Education and soap use can reduce school absenteeism by 60%! (https://washdata.org/reports) Healthier kids miss school less often!
4
PROVIDE INCOME
We are empowering women with income through dignified work. With more family income women more often choose to provide better food for the table, clothes for their children, and home repairs that all support better long term health.
